When the New York Islanders decided to vacate the Coliseum for its new home at the Barclay’s Arena in Brooklyn, the Nassau Coliseum’s future seemed uncertain. Once the home of not only the Islanders, but also the New York Express, the New York Saints and various minor league teams, the Coliseum has a history rich in sporting events. It also was the site of many famous musical acts, including Elvis Presley, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Long Island’s own Billy Joel. After many years of debate, it was decided in 2013 to renovate the entire arena in preparation for its new life as primarily a cultural venue. ABCO Peerless altered and expanded fire protection systems throughout the 100,000 square foot arena, helping it to meet current building code standards while preserving its legacy.
